Windows 11 vs. Linux Mint 22: Finding your Perfect System
If you’ve picked up a new computer recently, you probably noticed it takes a long time to actually get to your desktop. Between creating accounts, running updates, and clearing out trial software you didn't ask for, the first day with a new PC can be a chore.
At Ohio Computer Sales, we want you to skip that part. We run updates and do all the tedious loading screen chores so you don't have to babysit your system. We offer both Windows 11 and Linux Mint 22 because different people have different needs, but no matter which you choose we'll set your new computer ready to go right out of the box.
Windows 11: The Standard Choice
Most people are used to Windows. It’s the default for a reason, it runs almost everything.
-
Software Compatibility: If you need specific programs for taxes, specialized accounting, gaming, or certain hobbies, Windows is usually the preferred way to go.
-
The Trade-off: It requires more hardware power to run smoothly. It also comes with many background processes and mandatory Microsoft account sign-ins that can feel intrusive if you just want to browse the web.
Linux Mint 22: The Lightweight Alternative
If you haven't looked at Linux lately, you might be surprised. Mint 22 looks and feels a lot like the classic desktop layouts we all grew up with.
-
Speed and Reliability: Because it doesn't have as much going on in the background, Linux Mint stays fast even on older hardware. It’s a great way to get high-end performance out of a refurbished laptop. It also doesn't force you to upgrade like many Microsoft products now do.
-
Privacy and Simplicity: There are no forced ads in your start menu and no tracking. When you turn it on, it just opens up to a clean desktop. It includes everything you need for the basics: web browsing, office documents, and email—without the extra clutter.
Which one should you pick?
It really comes down to your software. If you have one specific program you can't live without, Windows 11 is the right call. We provide clean installs that remove as much of the factory junk as possible to keep it snappy, and we adjust the privacy settings to keep out as much of the unwanted ads as possible.
If you spend 90% of your time in a web browser—banking, shopping, or watching videos—Linux Mint 22 is often the faster, more secure experience. If you want to dabble in both worlds, we can make custom dual boot setups for you. Just reach out to us.
